The Hampton Bays School District marked the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 with an annual Patriot Day memorial ceremony. 

Holding American flags and banners, elementary school students walked the elementary and middle schools’ bus loops to mark the anniversary, while middle school students planted 2,977 American flags on their school’s lawn. Additionally, fourth graders shared original poems and essays reflecting on what it means to be a hero and performed patriotic songs. The program also featured the presentation of a memorial wreath by the Hampton Bays Fire Department, along with remarks from local officials.
