Mi madre decidió emigrar a los Estados Unidos para darnos a mí y mi hermanita un mejor futuro y mejor vida. Cuando tenía 8 años me quedé con mi hermana en Honduras. Era muy duro no tener a nuestra madre especialmente porque no podía contar con nuestro padre. Era una persona que no pensaba lo que iba a hacer, y por el tipo de decisiones que tomó, hizo crear malos recuerdos. Pero no era un villano solo una persona con problemas. A pesar de todo logramos salir adelante. Mi madre logró darnos la vida y la oportunidad que necesitaba en la vida dándome los estudios. Después de 6 años migramos hacia este país. De camino sentía mucho miedo y angustia de lo que pasaría a mi o mi hermana. Gracias a Dios todo salió bien y pude reencontrarme con mi madre. En un nuevo país, costumbres, personas.

Al llegar a los estados unidos tenía que entrar a una escuela, entre a la escuela de riverhead middle school. Mi primer día fue duro porque no entendía nada ni salones ni computadoras. No tenía amigos me miraban raro, y no querían socializar conmigo. Y hubo una persona que me ayudó en todo, a comprender todo. Sin darme cuenta esa persona se volvió mi mejor amigo. También aprendí a socializar con los demás. Acostumbrarte a la vida es complicado estar en un país el cual no sabes mucho ni saber hablar el idioma con diferentes culturas, festivales y celebraciones es un mundo nuevo. Para cualquier persona será difícil.

Mi experiencia me ha dado a entender que nada es fácil en la vida y mucho menos cruzar varios países llenos de peligros, secuestros, matanzas y miedos. Varias personas cuando tienen mucho tiempo aquí sin familiares o un acompañante. La persona puede generar depresión por la soledad, este es un país lleno de oportunidades, lo que todo el mundo dice y es cierto, aprovechar al máximo el tiempo en este país, conocer personas que sí ayudan y mucho trabajo. 

Una de mis metas en la vida es Terminar la high school para conseguir un buen trabajo, practicar mucho mas mi ingles, mejorar físicamente

Ser alguien en la vida son mis planes poder tener lo que siempre quise, un hogar, mi familia, y lo mejor para mi madre, hermana y padre. Lo conseguiré esforzándome en el trabajo que están en mis planes. Graduarse es lo más posible del mundo, solo hay que poner mucho de parte de uno para conseguirlo y con un título de secundaria tienen más puertas para trabajos en este país.

Los obstáculos serán tu mismo porque si tu te lo propones nada detendrá 

Prefiero trabajar y ganar experiencia sobre la vida y aprender poco a poco como ir mejorando

Quiero trabajar de policía porque me preocupo por la seguridad de las personas.

My mother decided to emigrate to the United States to give my little sister and me a better future and a better life. When I was 8 years old, I stayed in Honduras with my sister. It was very hard not having our mother with us, especially because we couldn't count on our father. He was someone who didn’t think about the consequences of his actions, and the decisions he made created bad memories. But he wasn’t a villain—just a person with problems.

Despite everything, we managed to move forward. My mother was able to give us the life and opportunity we needed by providing us with an education. After six years, we migrated to this country. Along the way, I felt very scared and anxious about what might happen to me or my sister. Thank God, everything turned out okay, and I was able to reunite with my mother.

It was a new country, with new customs, new people.

When I arrived in the United States, I had to start school. I went to Riverhead Middle School. My first day was hard because I didn’t understand anything—not the classrooms, not the computers. I had no friends. People looked at me strangely and didn’t want to talk to me. But there was one person who helped me with everything, helped me understand everything. Without realizing it, that person became my best friend. I also learned how to socialize with others.

Getting used to life here is complicated. Being in a country where you don’t know much, can’t speak the language, and are surrounded by different cultures, festivals, and celebrations—it’s a whole new world. For anyone, that would be hard.

My experience has helped me understand that nothing in life is easy, especially not crossing several countries full of danger, kidnapping, violence, and fear. Many people, when they’ve been here a long time without family or someone close, can fall into depression from loneliness. This is a country full of opportunities, just like everyone says—and it’s true. You have to take advantage of your time here, meet people who are willing to help, and work hard.

My Goals

One of my goals in life is to finish high school so I can get a good job. I want to keep practicing my English, improve physically, and become someone in life. I want to have what I’ve always dreamed of—a home, my family together, and the best life possible for my mother, sister, and father. I know I’ll achieve it by working hard and staying focused on my goals.

Graduating is absolutely possible. You just have to give it your all to make it happen. With a high school diploma, there are many more job opportunities in this country.

The biggest obstacle you’ll face is yourself—because if you truly commit to something, nothing can stop you.

I prefer to work and gain life experience while learning little by little how to improve.

One day, I want to work as a police officer because I care about people’s safety.
