The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has once again named Hampton Bays High School a Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence for the 2024-25 school year.

To earn this recognition, 75% of the school’s varsity athletic teams were required to hold a GPA above 90%. Hampton Bays is among 221 schools to receive this noteworthy designation.

The Hampton Bays School District congratulates its varsity teams on an outstanding job.

Hampton Bays track and field star takes second place at states

Hampton Bays High School senior Asha Pensa-Johnson earned second place in the Class B discus finals with a throw of 132 feet, 0 inches at the spring track state finals. She placed fifth overall.

Pensa-Johnson is no stranger to competing at the state level or breaking records. She placed fourth at the state level last year, and in her sophomore year, she broke the school’s 2013 discus record with a 117’5” throw. She holds All-Sectional, All-County, All-League, All-State and All-Federation titles. She is also an accomplished volleyball player and was named All-League and League VI Player of the Year in 2024.

Pensa-Johnson will attend Rutgers University-Camden in the fall and has committed to joining the volleyball and track and field teams.
