Five Hampton Bays winter track and field athletes set new school records while recently competing at the 2022 Bishop Loughlin Games at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Matthew Papajohn broke the 300-meter dash record set in 2021 with a time of 37.07, beating out the previous record of 37.48. Joffre Proano set a new record for the pole vault with an 11-foot jump, surpassing the 2003 record of 10 feet, 6 inches. Also setting a new record was the 4x200-meter relay team made up of Elijah Amos, Charlie Garcia, Papajohn and Liam Sutton, who completed the race in 1:37.11. The previous record was 1:40.22 in 2019.
The Hampton Bays School District extends its congratulations to these student-athletes on a job well done.
