The winter sports season at Hampton Bays High School has come to an end, with multiple teams and athletes earning accolades.
“Our athletes worked hard over the winter season, and we are very proud of their accomplishments,” said John Foster, director of health, physical education, athletics and transportation. “We are looking forward to the spring season.”
Highlights of the winter season include four varsity teams earning scholar-athlete status. They include cheer, girls basketball, and girls and boys winter track teams.
Athlete honors include the following:
Cheer
Team – Qualified for Section XI County Championship; placed fourth for Class C at county championship; high average season score of 71.52
All-Class – Maddie Warn

Boys Winter Track
All-County – Kevin Londono-Puerta (two times: 55-meter dash, 4x200 meter relay), Charlie Alvarracin (4x200 meter relay), Daniel Ortiz (4x200 meter relay) and Erick Ibanez (4x200 meter relay)
All-League – Kevin Londono-Puerta (two times: 55-meter dash, 4x200 meter relay), Daniel Ortiz (two times: 300-meter dash, 4x200 meter relay), Erick Ibanez (two times: long jump, 4x200 meter relay) and Charlie Alvarracin
Girls Winter Track
All-League – Sofia Galvin (1,500-meter) and Brianna Farell (300-meter dash)
Wrestling
All-State – Cyrus Gutierrez-Tyler (eighth at 145 lbs.)
All-County – Kevin Saa Pacheco (fifth at 124 lbs.), Nilson (Danny) Quesada (sixth at 138 lbs.), Cyrus Gutierrez-Tyler (first at 145 lbs.), Angel Valverde (fifth at 152 lbs.), Brayden Havens (fourth at 160 lbs.) and Mike Gutierrez (third at 215 lbs.)
