Hampton Bays athletes commit to colleges

Three Hampton Bays High School seniors were honored during a ceremony on May 31 for committing to continue athletics in college.
The Hampton Bays School District congratulates the following students:
Mia Camey — Manhattanville College, lacrosse
Kaz Pensa-Johnson — SUNY Cortland, basketball
Maizie Poulakis — Utica University, track and field

Hampton Bays boys track team soars at county meet

The Hampton Bays High School boys varsity track team had a stellar performance with several first-place wins at the Suffolk County Section XI C Championships on May 23.

Liam Sutton took first place in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.78, Matthew Papajohn earned first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.28 and Charlie Garcia took first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.58. Additionally, the 4x400 team, made up of Eddie Benenaula, Garcia, Papajohn and Sutton, are the new county champions, placing first with a time of 3:34.82.

The Hampton Bays School District extends its congratulations to the athletes.

Hampton Bays basketball player makes All-State team

Hampton Bays High School senior Kazmin Pensa Johnson has been named to the All-State Basketball team by the New York State Sportswriters Association. He earned the accolades for averaging, per game, 25 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2.4 steals and three blocks. Johnson, who will be attending SUNY Cortland in the fall to play basketball, also holds All-County, All-Conference and All-League titles and was named a League 4 Eastern Division MVP.

New discus record set in Hampton Bays

Hampton Bays High School athlete Asha Pensa-Johnson thumbnail245418

Hampton Bays High School athlete Asha Pensa-Johnson has broken the school’s 2013 discus record. During the Port Jefferson Steeple Meet on April 12, Pensa-Johnson beat the 113’6” record with a 117’5” throw. The Hampton Bays School District congratulates Pensa-Johnson on this accomplishment.
