Emma Halsey Runs at Nationals

Hampton Bays varsity runner Emma Halsey had a stellar winter season that culminated with her becoming the first Hampton Bays athlete to qualify and compete in the Nike Indoor Nationals. The senior ran the 55-meter and 60-meter hurdles, two events that she excelled in during the winter season. She broke the school’s record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.64, as well as the school’s triple jump record with a jump of 34 feet, 8.75 inches. She further earned All-League, All-County and All-County Academic accolades. She has committed to running at the University of Rhode Island in the fall and will study Environmental Science Management. The district congratulates Emma on her exceptional season.

The winter sports season has wrapped up in the Hampton Bays School District with a number of high school athletes earning accolades. The district congratulates the following student-athletes:

Team: Qualified for the 2024 Suffolk County Championship; school record overall season-high average of 70.39; first time since 2020 that Hampton Bays has advanced to the postseason and was the only team on the South Fork to represent competitive cheerleading at this level; placed 4th in the county at the Section XI cheerleading championship

SMR relay team: Comprised of Anthony Arango, Alan Cruz Rojas, Joffre Proano and Cesar Ramos; ran 4:03.80

Girls Winter Track:

Broke six school records:

Emma Halsey ran 8.64 in 55-meter hurdles and jumped 34’-8.75” in the triple jump

Sofia Galvan ran 5:39.51 in the mile, ran 11:23.44 in the 3,000-meter and ran 2:30.74 in the 800-meter

SMR team: Comprised of Leah Fassino, Sofia Galvan, Emma Halsey and Izzy Ospitale; ran 4:36.75

All-League: Emma Halsey for hurdles and triple jump; Sofia Galvan for the 1,500-meter

Hampton Bays seniors earn Suffolk Zone Awards

Hampton Bays High School seniors Justin Guanga and Nellie Nicolova were recently honored by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance as winners of the Suffolk Zone Award. The seniors were selected based on their outstanding character, exceptional leadership in the school environment and status as a physical fitness role model for other students. The Hampton Bays School District congratulates both students on this well-deserved honor.
