My Story - Student #7
ESTA ES MI HISTORIA
Son muchas de las cosas que he vivido en mi infancia. Pero me quedo con las que un día con mi prima que es como mi hermana, jugábamos hacer unas enfermeras o cosmetologas y decíamos que de grandes lo íbamos a cumplir. Algunas de las cosas que más extraño es tener a mi familia a mi lado. Compartir con ellos los días festivos o en cualquier momento. Cuando me fui por primera vez a la escuela, me fui con mi prima, siempre éramos las dos en cualquier cosa. Nunca nos queríamos separar y hacíamos las tareas o presentaciones juntas. Después tuvimos que salir a estudiar en otro colegio y salimos igual las dos. Porque no queríamos separarnos. En mi colegio siempre teníamos que usar uniforme. Había uniformes para diferentes días, lo que aquí en US no ahí. Y también las reglas y menos recursos para poder obtener becas, para poder ingresar a la universidad.
¿Por qué dejaste tu país? Yo deje mi país para venir a re-encontrarme con mis papas y poder estar juntos nuevamente después de dos años que mi mamá vino a este país y con mi papa que ya tenía cuatro años. También vine porque sé que si venía a este país iba a tener muchas oportunidades de estudios y tener una carrera o ser profesional en alguna cosa. Poder hacer cosas para mi futuro y ayudar a mi familia.
Para mi fue algo muy difícil dejarle a mis abuelos porque ellos eran con los que nosotros nos quedamos después que mi mama se vino, tuve que ser fuerte como la hermana mayor que soy, porque si no lo era mis hermanos se iban a sentir mal ellos también. Nuestro viaje fue de 1 mes para llegar a este país a estar junto a nuestra mamá. Tuvimos tres vuelos de diferentes lados y el último era en Managua Nicaragua. Después de ahí viajamos en carro y llegamos a México de ahí viajamos solo en trailer hasta llegar a Mexicali. Pasamos 1 semana ahí. Después en una noche nos llevaron de ahí porque dijeron que ya nos iban a entregar a migración, nos llevaron y nos tocó caminar tres horas. Después ya llegamos en migración cerca de la frontera. Desde esa madrugada que entre ahí no sé cuántos días estuvimos ahí pero yo creo que fueron 2 días. Después, cuando nos sacaron de allí nos llevaron en bus hasta un aeropuerto, fuimos en un avión hasta otro aeropuerto y cogimos otro y en ese ya llegamos a Manhattan. Ahí nos llevaron a un albergue donde pasamos 2 semanas hasta arreglar los papeles de migración y todo. Y después nos llevaron ya con nuestra mamá.
Para mí fue algo muy difícil adaptarme a este país y al colegio, pero después ya con el pasar del tiempo me fui más socializando con la gente de afuera como con las del colegio. En el colegio el primer mes se me hizo dificil por que me sentía perdida con las clases y lo que los profesores explicaban, pero pasó y ya con el tiempo fui aprendiendo y adaptándome a la rutina de todos los días, y les entendía un poco mas cada dia a los profesores. Para mi lo difícil era entenderles a las personas que hablan inglés. Para mi toda esta experiencia fue muy difícil pero he aprendido muchas cosas y he cambiado también muchas cosas de mi. Yo diría que para todas las personas que vamos o venimos a otros países se nos hace difícil adaptarnos los primeros meses, pero tenemos que saber que si venimos es para superarnos, tener algo y poder regresar a nuestro país, es difícil pero tampoco es algo imposible de lograrlo. Habrá días que estamos arriba pero también habrá días que estamos abajo pero podemos salir adelante.
Mi plan es graduarme de aquí de la secundaria, trabajar un año o más para poder estudiar la universidad o practicar un curso de Cosmetología. Me llama mucho la atención poder trabajar en esto, y me gusta y sé que si pongo empeño lo voy a lograr y así voy a poder hacer mis cosas para mi futuro. Para poder llegar a conseguir esto tenemos que ahorrar poco a poco lo que tenemos y cuando estemos estudiando, debemos ponerle mucho empeño, enfocarnos lo que más podamos hasta llegar a lograr nuestro objetivo. Al tener nuestra profesión debemos ser personas responsables porque es nuestro trabajo y va a ser nuestra fuente de ayuda tanto financiera como personal.
This is my history
There are many things I experienced in my childhood, but I will always remember the ones where one day with my cousin, who is like my sister. We played by being nurses or beauticians and said that when we grew up we were going to do it. Some of the things I miss most are having my family by my side. Sharing holidays or any time with them. When I first went to school, I went with my cousin, it was always the two of us. We never wanted to be apart and we did our homework or presentations together. Then we had to go to another school and we would go out together because we didn't want to be apart. At my school we always had to wear uniforms. There were uniforms for different days, which is not the case here in the US. And also the rules and less resources to be able to get scholarships, to be able to go to university.
Why did you leave your country? I left my country to be reunited with my parents and to be together again after two years since my mother came to this country and with my father who was already four years old. I also came because I know that if I came to this country I would have many opportunities to study and have a career or be a professional in something. To be able to do things for my future and help my family.
For me it was very difficult to leave my grandparents because they were the ones we stayed with after my mother left. I had to be as strong as the older sister that I am, because if I wasn't my brothers would feel bad too. Our journey was 1 month to get to this country to be with our mom. We had three flights from different places to others and the last one was in Managua, Nicaragua. After that we travelled by car and arrived in Mexico. From there we travelled alone in a trailer until we arrived in Mexicali. We spent 1 week there. Then one night they took us away from there because they said they were going to hand us over to immigration. They took us and we had to walk for three hours. Then we arrived at immigration near the border. I don't know how many days we were there from that early morning, but I think it was two days. Afterwards, when they took us out of there, they brought us by bus to an airport. We went on a plane to another airport and then we took another one and then we arrived in Manhattan. There they took us to a hostel where we spent 2 weeks until we had sorted out the immigration papers and everything. And then they took us to our mother.
It was very difficult for me to adapt to this country and the school, but as time went by I started to socialize more with people from abroad and from school. The first month at school was difficult for me because I felt lost with the classes and what the teachers explained, but as time went by I was learning and adapting to the daily routine, and I understood the teachers a little more each day. For me it was difficult to understand the English speakers. For me the whole experience was very difficult but I have learnt a lot of things and I have changed a lot of things about myself. I would say that for all the people who come or go to other countries it is difficult to adapt during the first months, but we have to know that if we come here it is to improve ourselves, to have something and to be able to return to our country, it is difficult but it is not impossible to achieve it. There will be days when we are at the top but there will also be days when we are at the bottom but we can get ahead.
My plan is to graduate from here from high school, work for a year or more to be able to study at university or take a course in Cosmetology. I really want to work in this field, and I like it and I know that if I put my mind to it, I will be able to do things for my future. To be able to achieve this we have to save little by little what we have and when we are studying, we have to put in a lot of effort and focus as much as we can until we achieve our objective. To have a profession, we must be responsible people because it is our job and it will be our source of financial and personal help.
