Hampton Bays track athletes end on high note

Hampton Bays High School girls and boys varsity track athletes ended their season with impressive accomplishments at the state meet.

Asha Pensa tied for first in discus in Division 2 with a throw of 135 feet, 11 inches and qualified for the Federation finals, where she placed third in the entire state, earning her both All-State and All-Federation honors. She also placed seventh in the Division 2 shot put, where she broke the school’s record with a throw of 36-6.

Emma Halsey finished her season by placing 10th in Division 2 in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.04 seconds, while Matthew Papajohn placed ninth in the Division 2 400-meter race and Charlie Garcia was 10th overall in the 100-meter dash for Division 2. Also competing was the boys 4x400 relay team, made up of Erick Ibanez, Daniel Ortiz, Matthew Papajohn and Cesar Ramos.

The Hampton Bays School District extends its congratulations to the athletes for their impressive season finish.
