Hampton Bays High School freshmen Sebastian Martinez and Sophia Reyes have been accepted into Brookhaven National Laboratory’s STEM-Prep Summer Institute.

To gain entrance into the program, the students were required to submit an online application, provide a teacher recommendation and participate in an interview.

As part of the three-week program, Martinez and Reyes will participate in hands-on lessons related to physics, biology, chemistry, environmental science and scientific computing. The classes will be taught by experienced educators at BNL. The students will also have the opportunity to meet scientific and technical staff to learn about careers in the STEM fields.
