Hampton Bays Elementary School’s third and fourth grade students recently participated in the Wheeled Sports Safety Program, presented by Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. The interactive program, held on Oct. 15, was offered in partnership with ThinkFirst, a national injury prevention foundation. Students learned about the science behind brain injuries and how helmets play a crucial role in preventing them. The presentation also emphasized the importance of safe riding practices, especially as children transition from supervised to independent riding of bicycles, scooters and other wheeled sports. The program encouraged students to make smart, safety-minded choices whenever they ride, reinforcing the message that helmets save lives and protect growing minds.
