For the first time, two Hampton Bays High School students — Emily Londono and Emily Tobar Fonseca — were nominated for the No Place for Hate Cynthia Marks Student Legacy Award. While the students did not win the award, they are more determined to earn it next year.

The two juniors were nominated for the award for their hard work and dedication to their school’s No Place for Hate initiative. With the assistance of their fellow No Place for Hate Committee members, the pair worked to spread a message of kindness throughout their school through a variety of campaigns and activities. They created an informative video about microaggression that was shared with the student body. They also trained their peers and led activity sessions that aimed to break down barriers among students while promoting kindness.

The juniors say they are proud of the strides they have made and hope to expand the No Place for Hate messages and committee in the school next year.
