Hampton Bays Elementary School first grade students in Krista Savino and Liz Scott's class learned that being different is a beautiful thing following a reading of “The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin” by Joe Troiano. As part of the lesson, the students discussed story elements, including setting, characters, problems and solutions. They also created their own paper Spookley pumpkins.
