Hampton Bays High School teacher Theresa Carey has been named Teacher of the Year by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5350. She was presented with the award at a recent ceremony.

Carey was nominated for her dedication to the students in the Hampton Bays School District as a physical education teacher at the elementary school. She is also the elementary school’s student council adviser, as well as a varsity tennis and basketball coach.

“I am deeply honored to receive the Teacher of the Year award from the VFW,” said Carey. “Being recognized by the men and women who selflessly serve this country and community humbles me. I am thankful for the teachers, administrators and, most of all, our sweet students, who make this work fun and rewarding.”

Carey has been teaching in Hampton Bays for 22 years.
