A reindeer lesson

Hampton Bays Elementary School second grade students learned more about reindeer as part of a cross-curricular unit of study. They researched reindeer by reading a series of nonfiction texts and articles and then worked together to identify facts they had learned. They also composed their own nonfiction writing pieces about reindeer that they shared with their peers. Tied into the unit was a social-emotional lesson where students wrote about how they “shine” like Rudolph’s nose. The students’ work is adorned outside their classroom on a “Santa's Reindeer Barn” display.
