Blackout poetry

Hampton Bays Middle School seventh and eighth grade students recently took their ELA and art skills to a whole new level by exploring the power of blackout poetry — a creative process where they “black out” words from a page of text to reveal their own poem. After crafting their poems, the students brought their words to life by illustrating them with various types of media, including watercolors, markers and colored pencil. Their work resulted in beautiful, expressive pieces that merged the written word with visual art in a truly unique way.
